Sitka Outdoor Recreation Coalition to hold first meeting on Nov. 18

The Sitka Outdoor Recreation Coalition will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, at Harrigan Centennial Hall.

The Sitka Outdoor Recreation Coalition was created during the community planning meeting from the 2010 Sitka Health Summit in October, when Sitka residents chose four community health priority projects to work on this year. The Sitka Outdoor Recreation Coalition will try to get more people (especially kids and families) outdoors for recreation. The “Get Out, Sitka!” campaign will look at what opportunities exist in Sitka, what our needs are, what programs are available, how we can get new people outdoors, what stakeholders we need to invite, and more.

This is our first meeting since the Sitka Health Summit, so this is your chance to help us decide our priorities. We will continue some of the preliminary work done during the Sitka Health Summit planning meeting on Oct. 5. But we also will incorporate information from the Sitka Sustainable Outdoor Recreation Action Plan workshops held on Oct. 27-28.
