New fliers promote getting Sitka kids and families outdoors for recreation

The Sitka Outdoor Recreation Coalition (Get Out, Sitka!) recently released the second and third in a series of fliers designed to encourage Sitka kids and families to spend more time outdoors for recreation.

The “Have you been outdoors today?” campaign will feature a series of different photos of Sitka kids and families enjoying the outdoors with information about the benefits of outdoor activities. We hope to have a few new fliers released throughout the year. We also plan to write some 30-second radio PSA scripts to complement the campaign.

If you want to participate in the media campaign, we’re looking for a few good, sharp photos showing Sitka kids and families enjoying outdoor activities. If you have a photo you’d like us to consider for the campaign, e-mail a copy to Please have IDs for everyone in the photo, and any children featured will need to have their parents’ approval to be included in the campaign. We also may need a few parent and child “actors” to help us when we record the radio PSAs. If you’re interested in the radio PSAs, send an e-mail to the address above.

Another way to help with the campaign is to download the PDF files below and print out a few copies on a color printer. Then post the fliers on bulletin boards around town, especially at local schools, churches and daycare centers where there are lots of younger kids and their parents. Your help is greatly appreciated.

• “Have You Been Outdoors Today?” flier — beach kids (first flier)

• “Have You Been Outdoors Today?” flier — gardening (second flier)

• “Have You Been Outdoors Today?” flier — family bike outing (third flier)
