Girls On The Run program seeks adult coaches for this spring’s season

Sitkans Against Family Violence (SAFV) is recruiting adult coaches for the spring 2012 season of its Girls On The Run program.

The Girls On The Run International program is a life-changing empowerment program for girls (ages 8-14). The program combines training for a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) running event with healthy living and self-esteem-enhancing curricula. The GOTR programs instill self-esteem and self-respect through physical training, health education, life skills development, and mentoring relationships.

The 12-week program is one of several similar programs in Southeast Alaska. SAFV operates the GOTR program in Sitka, while AWARE  (Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies) operates the GOTR program in Juneau and WISH (Women In Safe Homes) operates one in Ketchikan.

The deadline to apply to be a GOTR coach in Sitka is Nov. 21. Interested individuals should pick up a volunteer application at SAFV at 207 Seward St., or contact Julia Smith or Nick Campolettano at 747-3370 or ntcamp@safv.org.
