Sitka Sound Science Center announces upcoming training for docents and junior docents

The Sitka Sound Science Center is developing a docent program, training volunteers to help guide guests through the center, showing off the exhibits and teaching them about the programs.

In addition to being guides for the Sitka Sound Science Center, the docents also will help man the front desk. The docent positions are ideal for retired people, high school students, or anybody with daytime or weekend free time, executive director Lisa Busch said.

Docent training starts in late February and runs through May. There also will be training for junior docents (middle school students) who want to get involved with the center. The center also is recruiting volunteers, who won’t need to go through docent training.
