Hames Wellness Center to host five-week Backpacking 101 class in October

Want to learn how to prepare for a backcountry adventure?

Backcountry snowboarder and outdoor enthusiast Meridith Condon, a National Outdoor Leadership School Instructor, will teach a five-week Backpacking 101 class in October at the Hames Athletic and Wellness Center. The classes will be from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Oct. 3, Oct. 10, Oct. 17, Oct. 24, and Oct. 31, at Hames Center.

The first class will deal with goals and gear. The next two classes will discuss maps and route planning. The fourth class is about backcountry cooking, and the final class is about planning a trip.

The class series costs $50, and space is limited. For more information, contact the Hames Center at 747-5080.
